Rotary Siksha Kendra

ROTARY SIKSHA KENDRA – 27 Glorious Years.

Rotary Siksha Kendra is the most prestigious permanent project of ROTARY CLUB OF CENTRAL CALCUTTA. The thought of Rotary Siksha Kendra (commonly referred to as RSK) brings about a feeling of immense pride and satisfaction in the hearts of Rotarians. Completing 27 years in existence, RSK is a Bengali medium school situated on Diamond Harbour Road at Bishnupur (Amtala) in the Southern outskirts of Kolkata, providing education to children from the economically weaker sections of the society. Since inception, RSK has been a boon for the local residents who could not bear the burden of high fee structure of either the Government, Convent or Private Schools.

RSK was founded on 30th May, 1989 during the Presidentship of Rtn. Raj Kumar Rajgaria and started functioning out of three rooms at a rented premises.

The Foundation stone for our own School Building was laid on 11th of January, 1994 by the then Rotary International President, Robert R Barth under Chairman Rtn. Raj Kumar Rajgaria and President Rtn. Subhas Chand Kankaria.

RSK shifted into its own new premises on 29th June, 1994 during the tenure of Rtn. Subhas Chand Kankaria as President of RC Central Calcutta in the year 1993-94. The Ground floor and part of 1st Floor of the School Building was then constructed and the Primary Section was completely functional.

Thereafter, during the tenure of Shri Rajendra Makharia as President during the year 1995-96, the school building got the remaining 4 Rooms on the 1st Floor and terrace.

At present, RSK is running with morning and evening sessions to accommodate a strength of almost 460 students. In order to keep the students updated with time, computer education is now being imparted and the students get a hands-on-approach to the subject besides theory. Like other schools, RSK celebrates such major events as Saraswati Puja, Independence Day, Annual function, Annual sports day, Annual picnic, etc every year, thus providing the best of both worlds inspite of very low fee structure.

Club members have worked hard to bring the school to this level and they continue to put the best of their efforts for further progress. Special mention needs to be made of PP.Subhas Chand Kankaria and PP.Prakash Bhadani, who along with the present school Principal Krishna Samanta and the teachers, have nurtured the school as their own child and put their heart and soul into making the school what it is today.

Younger Rtn. Vivek Phumra and Ann Sarita have now taken an active interest, blessed with the foresight.
